This week my husband and I were supposed to be heading to Spain for a vacation but with Covid we have been in the house for almost 3 months. With a days notice we decided to road trip to Hilton Head Island. Two of my girlfriends vacay here often & we had never been so it seemed somewhat perfect. I drove the first 6 hrs to North Carolina and my husband took over from there as he works nights and slept the first part of the trip. I have to be honest I was very worried about heading south and with all of the racial animosity in the air and NASCAR recently banning the confederate flag. I was worried about coming south and what we might see or encounter. Once we arrived I was so excited to see black workers black guest in the lobby, black people in the pool and on the beach; I instantly felt at ease. I’ll be honest most of the time while traveling we are always the only black people but this time it felt different.
Our goal for the vacation was to continue to social distance, chill at the beach & pool & eat good. And that’s what we did. I really didn’t want to be in close quarters with anyone so we didn’t opt for any excursions, we literally just chilled! We tried some local hotspots for dinner such as The Crazy Crab, The Salty Dog & Poseidon’s which were good.
We loved the area but the water is not clear & I saw way too many jellyfish! I’m not sure if we’ll come back as I like to try new places, but in all it was a great time.
Thanks for traveling along!
